Bull Riding
Bull Riding

This is the most popular of all the rodeo events.  In this event, the rider is not required to spur the animal, however, the judges are inclined to award more points to the rider if he chooses to spur the bull.  These animals usually weigh in excess of 2000 pounds and the riders weigh around 150-175 pounds.

Upper body control and strong legs are essential in this event, which was voted as America's Toughest Sport.  The rider tries to remain forward, "over his hand" at all times.  Leaning back could cause him to be whipped forward when the bull bucks.

Judges watch for good body position and control as well as use of the free arm.  Again in this event, the score is based half on the rider and half on the animal.  The rider will be disqualified for touching the animal, himself or his equipment before the 8 second buzzer.
