| Bull Riding |
|
This is the most popular of all the rodeo events. Â In this event, the rider is not required to spur the animal, however, the judges are inclined to award more points to the rider if he chooses to spur the bull. Â These animals usually weigh in excess of 2000 pounds and the riders weigh around 150-175 pounds. Upper body control and strong legs are essential in this event, which was voted as America's Toughest Sport. Â The rider tries to remain forward, "over his hand" at all times. Â Leaning back could cause him to be whipped forward when the bull bucks. Judges watch for good body position and control as well as use of the free arm. Â Again in this event, the score is based half on the rider and half on the animal. Â The rider will be disqualified for touching the animal, himself or his equipment before the 8 second buzzer. |
